"All Japanese people are short"
"Japanese people are all smart and Tech Savvy"
The next stereotype is that all Japanese people are super smart and everyone is very skilled with technology. This is not really true. Although Japan might put a stronger importance on education and technology, this does not necessarily mean that everyone is smart or that everyone knows how to use technology very well. |
"Japanese people are shy"
Another Stereotype about Japanese people is that they are all very shy. However, what many people see as "shyness" is actually just a difference in the culture.
Japanese people believe it is very important to be very respectful in how they treat people, and one important way that they show respect is in how they speak. It is seen as rude to always speak what is on your mind or speak loudly. |
"Japanese people have personal space issues"
|
Some people think that Japanese people do not like to be touched by other people or have people too close to them because it is not common to give hugs or shake peoples' hands in Japan.
But, this is not exactly true. Japan is a small island nation with very many people and only small areas of land that people can live at, so many places are very crowded and many times people must be very close to each other. An example of this is that sometimes they try to fit as many people onto trains as possible. Some people even have the official job of a "Train Stuffer." |
"Japanese people wear traditional clothing all time time"
Some people think that Japanese people still wear the traditional robes (called Kimono or Yukata) everyday or very often.
But this is not true. The traditional clothes are only worn on very special occasions and many families don't own kimonos or yakuka, but rent them for the special occasions because they are very expensive. |
"Japanese people eat whales and dolphins
and Rice everyday"
"There are lots of Ninjas in Japan"
"Japanese people make everything 'cute' "
